The Operational Risk team is looking for an Operational Risk Associate who will play a crucial role in assisting the Firm in the identification, evaluation and management of operational risks, whilst supporting the operational risk strategy and driving a proactive operational risk culture. The individual will be joining a Global team and have an opportunity to make a real difference to the first line control environment through assisting Marex.

The role requires cohesive and supportive relationships to be developed both within and outside of the team. Flexibility in approach is critical. The postholder will be a highly visible lead to all levels.

Responsibilities:

– Working with business areas in the ongoing management and build out of Risk Registers for various business functions and segments, working to provide accurate reflection of information and challenge where appropriate.
– Own the effective programme of work around Risk Control Self-Assessment (RCSA) reassessment driving continuous improvement for designated areas as directed by Operational Risk Management.
– Contribute to an effective risk presence, promote risk discussions across Front, Middle, and Back Office areas in addition to senior management and build collaborative relationships across the business.
– Support the broader Operational Risk team in the successful implementation of Operational Risk technology and reporting strategy.
– Monitoring and reporting on Risk Events and Operational Losses, completing Operational Risk assessment, escalating to management appropriately, and actively supporting business areas in the learning of lessons.
– Completing thematic reviews into specific items as directed by Operational Risk Management.
– Supporting and completing data analytics across Business Risk Events, Emerging Risks, Trade Errors, and RCSA data.
– Daily management of Business Incidents, completion of root cause analysis and Operational Risk assessment.
– Ongoing development of the Operational Risk Management Framework and roll out of individual components.
– Supporting the integration of New Business.
– Contributing to the design of scenario analysis for ICAAP and ICARA.
– Horizon scanning to identify external and emerging risks which may lead to identification of new risks.
– Maintaining and developing improvements in Framework, Procedures, Policies and Guidelines, including the preparation of Risk Flash Notices.
– Contributing to creation of Risk Committee reporting. Practically maintaining strong relationships with second- and third-line assurance functions, actively participating in forums and promoting information sharing.
– Supporting the integration of New Business.
– Provides support and guidance to embed a positive risk culture.
– Providing training and guidance to other business areas on operational risk.

Skills and Experience:

Essential
– Knowledge of regulation and how it applies to internal operational processes and controls.
– Experienced in initiating and implementing change activities through to completion.
– Strong team worker and able to take initiative to scope and lead enhancement work.
– Able to deliver cultural change.
– Effective report writing and oral communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex requirements simply and to translate them into viable business practices and procedures.
– Ability to build constructive relationships and to influence all levels of staff.
– Able to balance commercial and regulatory requirements.
– Degree, Risk or equivalent qualification.
– Strong Excel, Word, PowerPoint skills and experiences in the use of internal IT systems.

Desirable
– Knowledge of control self-assessment techniques beneficial.
– Governance, Risk, and Compliance tool experience beneficial.
– Experience of Risk Framework implementation and best practices.
