As part of our ongoing commitment to ESG, we are hosting a webinar on Thursday 17 June 2021 ‘Decarbonising the global energy system and why it might happen faster than you think,’ with Dr Matt Ives from the University of Oxford.
This highly relevant topic is part of Marex’s ESG collaboration with the University of Oxford.
Dr Ives is part of the Oxford Martin Post-Carbon Transition Programme and author of the recent report ‘A new perspective on decarbonising the global energy system.’ In this session, he will discuss:
- Latest research from University of Oxford suggests that technological advances in renewables are consistently underestimated.
- Research scenario identifies the likelihood of a trigger point, whereby the cost of clean energy falls below products such as coal, leading to an acceleration of take-up.
- Transition to ‘net zero’ carbon global economy could be cheaper, faster and easier than currently assumed.
Dr Ives will also be joined for the Q&A by Professor Moritz Reide from the Oxford Department of Physics, who will provide his insights on the emerging trends in renewable technologies, particularly solar.
